Prologue
Everyone knew there were superheroes, supervillains, and piles of those that blurred that line. It was a fact of common life. The Bronze Tyrant held Lanimer City in an iron grasp that not even the Varain Syndicate, the most famous and powerful group of superheroes, could break. It was a death sentence to be a superhero in Lanimer, but where heroes cannot survive, anti-heroes sometimes thrive.

John stood in his house, waiting patiently for his friend, Nathan, to call him. Nathan said he had found something really cool, and that he would call John over after school that day. So there John sat, waiting for his best friend of eight years to call him. They had been friends since late elementary school, and even know, when they were both seniors in high school, they were still great friends.

Alec wandered through the wide forest. It was a beautiful place, especially this early in fall. The weather was just right, with a comfortable temperature. The trees were a brilliant mix of yellow, red, and green. Beauty and perfection surrounded him, and it was all he could do to keep from drooling.
